Summer pack trips are available in several formats depending on how you want to experience the wilderness:
Horseback access to camp is planned to balance access with guest comfort whenever possible.
Colorado Wilderness Outfitters offers guided summer pack trips in the Weminuche Wilderness from May through September.
These multi-day trips operate from established backcountry camps staffed with guides, wranglers, and cooks
All food and camping gear is provided. Trips require a two-person minimum.
Our horseback pack trips follow the same format as our guided fishing trips, using the same established camps and support staff, but without a dedicated fishing guide. A wrangler and cook are provided for the duration of the trip.
These trips are well suited for guests looking for a multi-day horseback wilderness experience focused on scenery, relaxation, and time in remote country.
For guests who prefer to travel on foot rather than on horseback, our assisted hiking trips provide the same wilderness camps and backcountry experience with a different approach to access. You hike into camp while your personal gear is packed on horses.
This option is a good fit for hikers who want to experience remote wilderness camps without carrying a heavy pack
Colorado Wilderness Outfitters holds permits across a large area of the Weminuche Wilderness, allowing us to offer progressive horseback trips that move between camp locations over the course of the trip. These trips start and end just north of Bayfield, Colorado.
Rather than staying in one camp, guests travel to a different location each day and experience a broader range of the wilderness. Fishing opportunities are available along the way.
Progressive trips run 3 to 7 days and are one of the more unique experiences we offer.

We also offer gear and game packing services in much of the Weminuche and Hermosa Creek Wilderness.
This service is available for hunters and other backcountry users who need stock-supported transport for gear or harvested game.
Personal gear, travel to the meeting location, and fishing licenses (if applicable) are not included.
